29/03/17 - George Osborne facing calls to quit as MP over Evening Standard job

George Osborne was appointed as London daily’s new editor and is now facing calls to quit. It was drawn into question whether he 'could represent his constituents effectively'.
I think that the main issue this highlights is how the newspapers can/do influence people's political beliefs. With Osbourne now editing what is being written, and a suspected vendetta agains may, shown in MP's WhatsApp group chats, there is more than enough reasons to believe the it may be easy to use his power to influence the readers. Furthermore he also has other jobs, he even earned £800,000 from 15 speaking arrangements last year. So a lack of money isn't in question, he doesn't really need another job, again giving people more of a reason to believe he has ulterior motives.
