The article highlights how there has been an increase in ads tailored for mobile viewing. Companies spend above £10bn on these ads alone. however there isn't a lot of control over where the ads are shown and who they are associated with, particularly on youtube. This as a result has meant that certain companies have 'paused' ads on YouTube until they fix the issue.
O Internet advertising spend surged above £10bn in the UK last year as companies more than doubled the amount they spent on mobile video ads.
O year-on-year increase of 17% on 2015
O £3.8bn digital display advertising market is traded programmatically, where machines have become largely responsible for choosing where ads are booked by advertisers and appear on the internet.
I think that the rise in spending on online ads was inevitable and slightly late. More and more people have and also use the internet on a daily basis and companies have been missing out on a lot of audience reach by failing to put enough funding into online ads. However sites such as YouTube have resulted in groups and companies exploiting the platform, and YouTube have a responsibility to make sure ads are appropriate and doing what the companies wanted them to do.
